Decided to take the plunge and buy a fantastic BL barge! Been off the road since the mid 90's so needs a little TLC. Its a well travelled Lime Flower 1800 Mk3 from April 73. Apart from the sills and a rear door skin she's in quite remarkable nick. Never been welded underneath and one of the two previous owners went to great lengths to protect it from tin worm. Inner wings sprayed with primer and wax oiled underside, boot floor and bulkhead etc. Pretty solid.
She's complete and was stored away carefully prior to the second owners death. Planning on having the sills and inner replaced on both sides and after I've drained the stale unleaded out I'll giver some new hoses, plugs etc and see hoe it goes.
She still has an old top up battery so I'm wondering what spec to replace it with?
Its all pretty new to me as I've previously had Mini's and Moggies but its so nice to have such a spacious and comfortable saloon in such an awful colour! I say awful, it does grow on you every time you stop and stare at it. Shes a smart lookin old girl even with her minor blemishes and occasional scabby bits.
All advice gratefully received! Loving this place and I have spent hours browsing through.
Cheers,
Dave Moglander.

Hi, Dave!
Welcome to the forum! I'm glad you enjoy it. Sounds like it won't take much work to get her back on the road. Limeflower sure is a true 70s colour! I like it!
The battery will have to be quite narrow, because of the engine damper. There are some modern cars, like some Toyotas, which use similiar batteries, approx 13,5 cms wide. I use a Varta Black Dynamic, called B 24. It's 45 Ah and fits well. It's more than enough to start and use in winter (Norway...), even though 60 Ah was used originally. I'm sure someone else will inform about which batteries are available in the UK.
Good luck! Looking forward to seeing some pics:-) Feel free to ask questions, that's what keeps the forum alive:-)
Regards, Tommy!

Hello Dave and welcome to the forum. I've not seen a Limeflower car in the flesh but it's definitely one of those 70s colours. I personally love Black Tulip; purpletastic.
I think you'll find a similar battery to Tommy's by searching for an 053. I am also told that an 015 is the original spec. Take a tape measure when you buy just to make sure. You can definitely get a Varta or a Halfords own brand. My car doesn't have the original side engine damper so I was able to choose pretty much anything.

Welcome aboard, Dave. Sounds like a nice project - pictures are obligatory........ Another vote from me for the Varta 053. Fits the space easily and plenty enough "Ooomph". I've had poor results with the Halfords batteries. Chris.

Hi. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Will make a start doing something real soon. As or the battery though I'm still struggling. Think a 225mm height will be to tall. Would prefer a varta over a halfords one. Could anyone in the uk give me full spec details. I have nothing to go off from the old battery and nothing in the owners book or haynes.
Cheers.

Varta details are HERE. Fits comfortably in my engine bay. Are you not in the UK? There is a globe trotting Moglander with a Unimog camper van who was last heard of in Bolivia...... Chris.

Hi guys.
Thanks for the help, assistant and pictures. Have sorted the battery out now and hoping very soon to see if she has a spark of life in her. I've finally got my tools back so hoping to make an order to earlsparts next month and do radiator and heater hoses plus fresh plugs etc. Hoping by by December to have put some hours in and be well on the way to having her running....
Cracking forum by the way. One of the best!
Cheers.

It is seriously in your interest to join LOCI. Tony Wood runs one one of the most comprehensive spares schemes of any car club that I've ever seen. He will sell to non-members and prices are very reasonable. landcrab.net/ - LOCI website. spareathought [AT] landcrab.net Chris.
